More Sketching

Here's another one I did just for fun. Enjoyed making the vibrant color palette while giving it a vintage feel. This model is also from the most recent Urban Outfitters Catalog. Her head might be a bit to big for her bodies proportions but I'm not gonna nit pick, it's just a doodle after all.

Saturday Night Sketching

This is a sketch I finished up using microns, prismacolor markers, alvin draft/matic pencils, and photoshop. Colors inspired by some of the great weather we're having, even if sporadically. Model was referenced from an Urban Outfitters catalog.

A Midnight Stroll

Dear blog followers, Here's a piece I just wrapped up a little while ago. It's titled A Midnight Stroll. For the female character I used reference from Mrs Dolloway's Stock on DA. As for the Horse and the tree I grabbed references from Google images. A went with a complimentary color scheme of dark blue and orange hues to contrast some of the other pieces I've done recently which I've drawn at different parts of the day - this would be my first night scene. I've been subconsciously drawing a lot of trees lately, there's something very calming about them. I'm happy with the way the one in this illustration wraps up the composition with it's circular motion. As always, I enjoyed very much making this. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! And remember, any shares, reposts, and +1's help me attract more viewers, which helps me attract more work, and ideally helps me keep doing what I love.

Vicuñas - 2012

This is an Illustration of Torres Del Paine with a group of Vicuñas walking in the foreground. I was experimenting with some colors I'd never used before.

Polar Bear

Here's a piece I finished of a polar bear and her cub at dusk with moonlight beginning to come down on them from above, and the sun falling behind the trees in the background. Also included are my preliminary thumbs.

Irish Elk

Here is my drawing of an Irish Elk. The second image is my final sketch and at the bottom you have a few of my thumbs. I worked on this for an entire saturday straight through - so I'm going to estimate it took about 8 to 10 hours to finish.

This piece was influenced by a lot of things. First and foremost by an upcoming show that I wanted to be a part of and have something new and original for. Second, I wanted to really get the flesh tones right - so I really focused on getting these right in this piece. Also, I wanted to create a few pieces targeted to a younger audience. This being the first I hope it does that. oh and also, owls are just awesome. enjoy!

tiny little robots

here's my submission for the tiny little robots contest + a detail image. The tiny little robots contest was the most recent of the area 221 blog contests and I had lotsa fun drawing my submission. I decided to go with something literal and straight-forward, using the scale of the hand to make the robots appear smaller.

I'm happy with the colors (can't go wrong with orange) and composition. Overall its my favorite of my own pieces. It took about 20 - 30 hours in total on photoshop. As always, I hope you guys enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it;]

sketches from my book. one of my new years resolutions was to finish at least one sketchbook this year. I'm terribly undisciplined when it comes to keeping a sketchbook and sticking to it.

rough

The value of expression is immeasurably relevant to everything you and I touch including, but not limited to, artwork. This is something I have to relearn again and again. I'm so attached to playing it safe and sticking to reference that often my pieces lack an emotional energy that can only be exposed through loose, rough, sketching. So, my most recent brushes do more than apply textures, I try to make it so that they apply the characteristics of traditional mediums that move through matter with less control than do digital mediums. Here's my most recent work-in-progress.

Planet of the Babes

This is a piece that I did to kick off the new year. I looked to see if anyone had already done it and was surprised to find that there was no planet of the (babes) parodies. This took a total of about 20 - 35 hours in photoshop. I used reference for Charlton Heston's face and for the costume which is still not 100% accurate. Also I used some reference for the trees and bushes because I cannot draw those kinds of things off the top of my head. I hope this pieces brings you some laughs!

Hunter of Herbs

This started as one of those concepts I just had to get out of my head and on to paper (or photoshop rather). This took me about 25 - 30 hours on the tablet over the course of a weekend.

The narrative is simple. A woman going out into the forest to forage for medicine. The message is just as simple: the natural world around us is abundant with all the things we need to live from.

Also, its frightening to know that for the last 5 years I've been saving files in photoshop incorrectly! I know can you believe it? Well here's the scoop on the right way to do it:

This is a painting I did referenced Bouguereau's Work Interrupted as reference for the background (did not trace, referenced). For the model I referenced Mrs.Dollaway-Stock from Deviant Art, she provided the very lovely dress, pose, and umbrella. All in all this took about 20 - 30 hours to paint which is about twice as long as i normally spend on any painting. This was done completely in Photoshop and I hope you will enjoy.
